About Laurent Brancowitz (Phoenix)
Laurent Mazzalai, known professionally as Laurent Brancowitz or Branco (born December 14, 1973 in Versailles, France), is the lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist of the Grammy-winning French indie rock band Phoenix. Before forming Phoenix in 1997 with Thomas Mars, Deck d'Arcy, and Christian Mazzalai, Branco famously played alongside Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo in the indie outfit Darlin' (who went on to form Daft Punk).
Branco's razor-sharp, syncopated funk-indie guitar riffs and vintage synthesizer hooks defined Phoenix's global masterpiece *Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix* (2009), generating modern rock anthems like '1901', 'Lisztomania', 'Too Young', and 'Entertainment'. His rhythmic guitar chops are essential study material for modern indie musicians.
