Udo Jurgens

Udo Jürgens (born Jürgen Udo Bockelmann; September 30, 1934 – December 21, 2014) was a legendary Austrian-German composer, pianist, and chanson/schlager singer who stands as one of the most prolific and successful European pop composers of the 20th century. Selling over 100 million records across a monumental six-decade career, Jürgens wrote more than 1,000 songs and bridged the worlds of German Schlager, French chanson, and grand symphonic pop. In 1966, he achieved historic international acclaim by winning the Eurovision Song Contest for Austria with his breathtaking French-German ballad 'Merci, Chérie'.
